π Liquidating Bad Investments Ahead of Q4 β οΈ. I share here one of the big LEGO investment mistakes Iβve made. Fortunately, I expect to make most of my money back on this investment, so itβs not a massive loss by any means. π°π‘
π It is a strategic move anyone in the e-commerce world is used to, to liquidate underperforming assets. Itβs important to recognize the changing market dynamics β in this case, a set I expected to retire, not doing so.Β
Itβs not only a smart move, but a necessary one to proactively reallocate resources (money and space) to then invest those in more promising investments. πΌπ
π Moral of the story, donβt be afraid to make mistakes every now and then. It happens to the best of us and sometimes, itβs out of our control. However, LEGO sets, as opposed to other items, hold their value. So, even if they donβt grow like you expect them to, they should retain the value you paid for them or even go up a bit. Enough for you to make most, if not all, of your money back. πͺ
Awhile back ago I purchased these expensive lenses to sell on Amazon. I bought them for $200 a piece and expected to sell them for $350 (profits for non-LEGO items are less than what we are used to with LEGO).Β
By the time the items arrived from England and arrived at Amazonβs warehouses, a manufacturer had come into the listing and was selling the same unit for $80 per unit. And they had hundreds of units! π±
Since this wasnβt a retiring item of any sorts, I had to liquidate this item at a massive loss. Thatβs the beauty of LEGO investing. As we all know, LEGO seldom has any discounts and there wonβt be a random manufacturer killing any listing. π§±ποΈ
Even if the sets get damaged β we had a pipe burst one time and some sets got wet. We had to remove them from the boxes and sold them without boxes. We still sold them at a profit. π§πΌ
Hot tip: LEGO sets hold their value. And setbacks like this are only steppingstones towards better investments. π
