Why The LEGO Movie was GREAT for the LEGO Community
The LEGO Movie released in 2014, showing off the LEGO universe in-depth to kids and adults for the very first time. Prior to Jorgen Vig Knudstorp becoming CEO of LEGO, LEGO was losing popularity for newer toy inventions and video games. Jorgen has done an incredible job in recovering the almost bankrupt company in the last decade.
The LEGO fan base has grown since then! We’ve seen an increase of LEGO fan’s across the board from new brickfilmers to MOC creators. The LEGO community as a whole has seen a dramatic influx over the next couple years. With that in mind, new fans have arrived with their own vision with LEGO. This is an exciting time to be a LEGO fan and see the possibility’s that these new fans bring to the community.
Aside from the LEGO community, The LEGO Movie benefitted the LEGO company in many other ways. LEGO is in its golden age since Jorgen Vig Knudstorp took over the almost bankrupt company. The LEGO company are seeing incredible numbers when it comes to the sales of sets. Some would argue that the LEGO Star Wars theme as a whole could be responsible for why LEGO is still around today. The original LEGO Star Wars video game also played a major factor in LEGO’s recovery, making the Top 100 Best Games of the 2000′s.
Since LEGO Star Wars, LEGO has really been aggressive in acquiring licenses for themes that would appeal to many fan bases. LEGO Harry Potter, LEGO Batman, LEGO Lord of the Rings and the more recent LEGO Ideas The Office set, which all have played a vital part in making LEGO a popular toy again. When The LEGO Movie released February 2014, remember the obstacles LEGO has had to face in recent times, but the future for LEGO is brighter than it’s ever been!
